The B.J. Metz Young Person of the Year Award recognizes outstanding students from Easton area high schools who demonstrate the Rotary ideal of "Service Above Self" through their involvement in school, community, and family activities. The recipient is selected based on character, leadership, service, and a commitment to helping others. The award carries with it a $2,000 gift. The award is named in honor of B.J. Metz, a past President of the Easton Rotary Club and former Rotary District Governor who has devoted decades of service to Rotary and the greater Easton community.

History of the Award

The Easton Rotary Club established the Young Person of the Year Award in 1996 to recognize a student whose actions and service exemplify Rotary's motto of "Service Above Self." The award was created to honor young people who demonstrate leadership, integrity, volunteerism, and community involvement beyond academic achievement alone.

In 2016, the award was renamed the B.J. Metz Young Person of the Year Award in recognition of B.J. Metz's extraordinary dedication and service to Rotary, the Easton community, and the many individuals whose lives he has touched through his leadership and volunteer efforts. The award remains one of Easton Rotary's most meaningful recognitions of youth leadership and community service.

Nomination Process

A young person must first be nominated by an adult, such as a parent, teacher, counselor, coach, employer, family friend, clergy member, or another individual familiar with the student's accomplishments and service.

Students should demonstrate:

• Leadership in school and community activities
