Past District Governor Diane Donaher was on hand for a presentation regarding the newly formed District 7430 Mental Health Committee. Past RI President Gordon Mclnally made mental health a key pilar during his Presidential year. In her Rotary District travels, Diane heard many personal stories and received much sincere gratitude that Rotary was focusing on this issue.
There are three main purposes for this Committee:
1. To break the stigma of talking about mental health.
2. To raise awareness through programs and projects.
3. To increase the capacity for people to access and receive help.
Diane provided us with a mindful moments checklist to help us relax and stay in the moment. The Upper Perkiomen Rotary produced a “Question, Persuade, Refer” suicide prevention program that was open to the community. The local Penn State Extension campus offers a mental health first aid program. The Shanthi Project has offered mindfulness programs in our local schools for 15 years.
