Easton Rotary in Action: Service, Community, and Global Connection

May was a meaningful and busy month for the Rotary Club of Easton, reflecting the heart of Rotary service above self, community commitment, and global fellowship.

A Record‑Breaking “Pack the Purse” Event

On May 7, Easton Rotary celebrated its largest “Pack the Purse” campaign to date, thanks to the leadership of Lori Metz and the generous support of Rotarians and community partners. An impressive 90 filled purses were collected and distributed to local organizations including Third Street Alliance, The ProJeCt of Easton, Safe Harbor, and River of Life Church Pantry.

Special thanks goes to the Old Greenwich Presbyterian Church for hosting a successful collection drive, as well as Assistant District Governor Dee Dee Foran and all who donated purses and essential supplies. This initiative continues to provide dignity and practical support to individuals in need throughout our community.

Caring for Our Community Spaces

Service extended outdoors on Sunday, May 3, when Rotarians gathered at the Herbert A. Snyder Interfaith Community Park for Spring Clean‑Up Day. Together, volunteers filled 14 large trash bags with debris, weeds, and waste making the park cleaner and more welcoming for everyone.

Thank you to President Lynn, Prince Cam, and Past President Gordon for their time and dedication. While some work remains to be completed, the impact of the day was clear and appreciated.

Building Global Rotary Connections

Rotary’s reach goes far beyond Easton. On Saturday, May 2, the Easton Rotary Club proudly welcomed visiting Rotarians from Rotary District 2071 in Florence, Italy, as part of an international cultural exchange program.

Guests included Rotarian Giovanni Petrocchi and his son Julio, Rotarian Saverio Lastrucci and his wife Laura, and District 7430 International Service Chair Cindy Hornaman. A banner exchange took place in historic Centre Square at Easton’s Peace Pole, followed by lunch at Pearly Baker’s and a tour of downtown Easton.

The visit reinforced Rotary’s global mission and underscored how international service and fellowship truly make the world feel smaller. Discussions even inspired ideas for future Peace Pole projects overseas.

Celebrating 110 Years of Service

Founded on April 1, 1915, the Rotary Club of Easton proudly celebrates 110 years of service in 2026. The events of this month reflect the Club’s continued commitment to making a difference locally and globally through compassion, action, and collaboration.

We look forward to what’s ahead and welcome community members and prospective Rotarians to join us in upcoming meetings and events.
