Our program featured Maureen White from the Chopper Foundation that helps families and local rescues by providing funds for emergency life-saving veterinary care. The Chopper Foundation was established by Thomas (Bink) and Sharon Yetto in May 2019 in honor of their beloved dog, Chopper. Bink was gifted Chopper as a puppy in 2005, and he was the most important part of his life, that is until he met Sharon in 2009. Chopper then became the center of both of their lives. Chopper went everywhere with them, and wherever he went, everyone fell in love with him.

About a month after Chopper’s passing, Sharon witnessed a very distraught couple leaving the vet office with their injured dog because they were unable to afford the necessary emergency care. This inspired Bink and Sharon to start The Chopper Foundation so that they could help owners get the life-saving care their pet needs. They want to ‘break the cycle’ and help people avoid surrendering to a rescue or shelter, euthanizing, or a pet living in pain simply because of the expense. One solution with every dog is to attempt to keep the family together in their loving home. They have already saved 150 pets.

The Foundation partners with Freshpet to provide food for pets in the Lehigh Valley and Berks County. Pets must be spayed or neutered in order to receive food. The Foundation hopes to partner with PetSmart to establish a spay/neuter program throughout their 1,700 locations. They partner with local veterinarians to reduce surgical costs by up to 40%. The all-volunteer organization relies solely on fundraisers and they have about 22 events every year. This year will feature a golf outing on September 19 at the Allentown Municipal Golf Course. Highlighting the outing will be a golf ball drop and the three winning entries will be selected by a certified service dog.
